poppy field maternity session / ashley + ryan

Ashley and Ryan were undecided on doing a maternity shoot, but when Ashley found this field of poppies it was a no-brainer. It made the perfect backdrop for capturing shots that felt warm and intimate, and as the sun set behind them it gave the pictures more and more of that golden hour glow. I couldn’t have asked for more!!

For the second half of their shoot we did an outfit change and traveled one minute down the road, and it felt like a totally different session. It’s amazing how just the shift in light, from indirect to direct sun, can change the look and feel of the images.

One of my favorite parts of working with Ashley and Ryan is that they always come prepared with so many different props and outfit options, but they are super flexible and give me total creative control to incorporate these things into their photos however I think they will look best! We were able to get shots with their ultrasound photos, their sweet puppy, and even a tiny Detroit Lions jersey, without it feeling inauthentic or uncomfortably posed.

I can’t wait to see what she has planned for when baby B arrives!
